Course Topics

During this course, we will perform a series of creative exercises as a means of introducing the course attendee to techniques and practice of digital textile surface design.

The course involves various digital technologies to create designs and patterns, and then process them into output files which can be used in different methods of fabric printing and garment manufacturing.

Key topics covered over the 6 weeks course include:

• Using software relevant to the technology used.
• Developing your drawings and forms with texture, composition and scale
• Repeats: learn to create various styles of repeating designs as well as seamless repeats
• Technical information: file types and print nomenclature

In order to fully participate in the practical exercises attendees should have the following items:

• Drawing materials for drawing - we will supply pencils pastels, water paint + brushes & tracing paper, any additional materials are to be supplied by attendee.
• Digital camera/smart phone + memory card/ stick
• A sketchbook or pad, preferably A3_you may also purchase these from the studio kindly enquire via email about stock.
• A laptop with a recent operating system which the attendee knows how to operate. Should you need assistance, we can offer basic IT literacy lessons, kindly enquire about our rates.
• If you are not sure about your level of digital literacy, kindly contact studio admin so we can assist you with assessing your literacy.
• You get 2 SewAlong to work at the studio on your project.
